Comment Policy and Contact Form

Comments will be enabled for all pianist discography pages and individual pianist blog posts throughout this site. At risk of stating the obvious, all comments are welcome as long as (1) they are relevant to the content of the post or page; (2) no profane, abusive, or threatening language is used; (3) they do not contain advertisements or product/service endorsements. Questions, comments, and suggestions are, it should also go without saying, most informative or helpful when they are as specific and evidence-based as possible.

In this age of Internet “consensus criticism,” there’s one more point I’d like to address here. There are few things I love more than a spirited discussion about pianists and their craft. Disagreements regarding aesthetic significance, interpretation, etc., are, I’d argue, the best way we have of broadening our perspectives and understanding our own judgments, even if our general opinions about a performance or performer do not end up changing. On this note, we should ever be at the ready to defend our preferences by pointing to specific elements of the artistry or performance in question. Ergo, if your only purpose in writing is to tell me I’m “wrong” because the Penguin classical music guide says so or 500 other listeners on Amazon or elsewhere disagree with me, please don’t bother writing; you will most likely be ignored for having just committed the argumentum ad verecundiam or argumentum ad populum logical fallacy, rendering further discussion fruitless. However, please do feel free to respond to one of my posts in outrage, red-faced, saliva foaming at the sides of your mouth, and prepared to defend your piano idol tooth and nail against my excoriations.

Those who have a lengthier or more general question or comment about pianists or piano playing are also welcome to contact me by using the form below.
